I love that being a wedding and family photographer means I get to experience all these amazing and life-changing moments of life. And of course, one of these life-altering moments is when people become parents. It’s one of the reasons I adored Baby Riley’s Denver newborn photoshoot. I love her precious little rolls and her barely open eyes. And I also love the facial expressions of mom and dad, so tender, so hopeful. Here are some of my favorites.

Newborn Photoshoots in the Home
While some photographers do studio photoshoots for a newborn shoot (and I certainly would too if I had a client interested in that), my preference is to do newborn sessions in the home. There are a few reasons why:
- Hello! You just had a baby! It’s a serious win just to get everyone dressed! I don’t expect you to want to get out of the house just yet. It’s so much easier if you just let me come to you.
- New moms and babies are often still getting the hang of nursing. It can be tough! Trust me, I know! For new nursing moms, they’re much more comfortable at home where they can nurse their newborn as needed throughout the shoot.
- The home provides such a peaceful and intimate setting for these oh-so-intimate moments.
- We can easily capture items that are meaningful to the shoot, like your crib, the baby’s room, and special toys or other keepsakes.
New Crib, Who Dis?
Like I just mentioned, one precious thing about doing a newborn shoot at home is that you can feature items in your home that you’re excited about. I loved the simple, clean aesthetic of Riley’s crib and I think the photos of her in the crib turned out especially sweet.
